Dr Sarah Bruno is a Chartered Clinical Psychologist. She is registered as a Practitioner Psychologist with the Health & Care Professions Council (PYL04931) and is a member of both the British Psychological Society and the Division of Clinical Psychology (membership number: 257854).
Sarah obtained a BSc Honours degree in Psychology in 2002 and a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology in 2007, both at the University of Hull. She is a trained practitioner in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy and also in Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP).
She has eleven years’ professional experience within the NHS which involves working with clients from across the life span. Since 2007 she has worked as a Clinical Psychologist within a specialist Looked After Children’s Team in East Lancashire. In 2010 she started as Lead Clinical Psychologist in a specialist Looked After and Adopted Children’s Mental Health team covering the Calderdale area and she remains in this role to date.
Sarah has extensive experience of working with children and young people, particularly those who have experienced complex trauma and severe attachment difficulties. As well as providing individual assessments and therapeutic interventions (both individual and dyadic), her role involves consultation and liaison with a wide range of professionals and external agencies (e.g. foster carers, kinship carers, adopters, schools, social workers, CAMHS, etc). Sarah also provides teaching, training, consultation and supervision.
Aside from her clinical work, she has very much enjoyed providing teaching regarding Attachment for the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Lancaster University.
Sarah believes that the relationship with her clients is at the centre of her work. As such, putting people at their ease and helping them to feel safe and understood is of great importance to her. She works in an integrative way with the aim of best meeting the needs of her clients, drawing on a range of therapeutic orientations, particularly attachment-based therapies and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).
Aside from work, Sarah is adjusting to being a new mum of a much loved little girl who thinks that sleep is for wimps! She has Italian family and a love of Italian food, as well as a weakness for all things sweet. She has enrolled on a night class to learn to bake in an attempt to stop spending her life savings at the local cake shop.
