Ilona has worked in primary care mental health and as Clinical Lead for a large mental health charity. Most of her clinical work has been within community mental health teams (CMHTs) with clients with complex histories and multiple issues including psychosis, personality issues, trauma (including sexual abuse), OCD, phobias, severe depression and anxiety. She also has special interests in gender and transgender issues. Ilona is a dyspraxic psychologist and she is interested in the impact of neurodiversity on mental health.
Therapeutically she is an integrative practitioner preferring to use techniques from a number of different therapy approaches. The main ones she uses are: schema focussed, cognitive behavioural, compassion focussed, narrative influenced and techniques from dialectical behaviour therapy. She works collaboratively with the client and takes time to build a good therapeutic alliance seeing this as key to any meaningful change.
Ilona currently works on a CMHT for the NHS doing direct clinical work (individual and groups) and offering supervision to other Psychologists (including Trainee Clinical Psychologists) as well as offering consultation and support to other professionals working in the CMHT.
In her spare time she enjoys reading novels, socialising, eating out, shopping for vintage fashion and listening to music including 90s indie rock.
