Dr Wilson obtained a First Class BSc Honours degree in Psychology at the University of Hull in 2006. She obtained a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology in 2009 and is registered as a Practitioner Psychologist with the Health & Care Professions Council (PYL24212) and is a Chartered Clinical Psychologist with the British Psychological Society. She is also a member of the Association of Cognitive Analytic Therapy (ACAT) and is a Cognitive Analytic Therapy Practitioner.
Claire has worked as a qualified Clinical Psychologist in the NHS since 2009 and progressed to the post of Principal Clinical Psychologist in 2011. She has specialised in working with complex post-traumatic stress disorder since that time and has worked with adults who have experienced significant traumas in both childhood and adult and associated psychological difficulties relating to those experiences. She provides consultation, training and supervision to other professionals working with complex cases. She has experience in working with a wide range of difficulties even within that specialist role including psychosis and personality disorder.
Since 2012 Claire has also worked in independent practice offering psychological assessment and therapeutic work across the age range, commonly from around age 6 upwards (both direct with children and indirect with parents/families). She has significant experience in providing trauma-focused intervention for both adults and children, but commonly works with a wide range of difficulties including generalised anxiety, depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, relationship difficulties and reaction to adverse life events. She is able to offer a range of therapeutic approaches including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT). She has a particular interest and focus on attachment and trauma in both children and adults and has attended significant amounts of further training allowing her to develop her knowledge and skills in this specialist area including a year-long course at the Tavistock London and specialist attachment training courses.
Since 2012 Claire has had considerable experience in medico legal assessment and reporting for children and adults following legal instruction – this has included parenting assessments for local authorities and medico legal personal injury assessments both with the remit of assessing mental health and psychological trauma. She has also significant experience in providing psychological therapy in such cases through insurance companies or rehabilitation providers.
Outside of work, Claire enjoys walks in the countryside (weather permitting of course!), reading, trying out different local restaurants and baking. She also enjoys high intensity interval training / going to gym classes although she admits this is more to mitigate the effects of the restaurants and baking rather than purely for pleasure!
