Dr Sophie Hopper has 7 years professional experience within the NHS working with individuals from across the life span.  In 2015, she started to provide psychological services within the private sector and in 2016, became the Lead Clinical Psychologist in a specialist Looked After Children Service covering the Calderdale area. Sophie plays a key role within NCPS’s specialist developmental trauma team, offering consultation to Team Around the Child Coordinators as well as house managers, together with trauma-focused therapy for children and young people.  Sophie also offers Local Authority assessments to aid decision-making around placements and care.

Over the years, Sophie has established a partnership with a group of privately run local children’s home.  She provides consultation and training to staff with the aims of increasing the psychological understanding of the needs of the young person, alongside one to one therapeutic interventions with the young people. Sophie is passionate about finding new and innovative ways of improving the psychological wellbeing of children and young people who have experienced developmental trauma. As a result, continued professional development is integral to her practice. She works from a mixed model approach with the aims of best meeting the needs of her clients, drawing on a range of evidence-based therapeutic orientations, particularly attachment-based therapies, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and EMDR.

Sophie believes that the relationship with her clients is the foundation of effective work. As such, finding ways to help the individuals feel safe and understood is of great importance.  She receives regular and robust clinical supervision to ensure the quality of the assessments and interventions she delivers.
