Matt has been working in adult mental health for over eight years across forensic, occupational health, and primary care settings. He originally graduated from the University of Sheffield in 2002 with an honours degree in Biological Sciences, before obtaining a psychology conversion degree from Newcastle University in 2004.
He completed a masters degree in Applied Forensic Psychology in 2008 while working in a secure forensic setting, before leaving this role to train at the University of Teesside as a Cognitive-Behavioural Therapist from September 2009 to April 2011 and supervisor from February to July 2012.
Registered as a Cognitive-Behavioural Psychotherapist with the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP Membership No: 100239), Matt’s combined interests in human biology, neuroscience, and trauma led him to also train as a practitioner in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy (2011-2012).
Matt prides himself on openness, authenticity, and enthusiasm in his practice, aiming to provide clients with a safe and supportive setting in which to explore and work through their problems.
He has been working as a CBT therapist and supervisor for an independent psychology company in Teesside since 2009, providing assessments and evidence-based psychological therapy within primary care and workplace settings. Matt has worked with adults from a diverse range of backgrounds and is experienced in working with a broad range of mental health difficulties including depression, low self-esteem, panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, health anxiety, social phobia, specific phobias, and worry/generalised anxiety disorder. Matt also has experience in treating posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) using both Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and EMDR therapy.
Away from work Matt is music obsessive, and loves climbing and bouldering.
